Mitchell got up early, grabbed our backpacks, & hit the road. We drove about an hour and half to reach our Cub Scout hiking destination, only stopping long enough to pick up drinks & fill the van with gas. We arrived at our destination about 9:45am. We hit the restroom & signed into the hiking log. The Cub Scout group handed out awards, went over safety rules, & then we set off on our three mile hike. Most of the hike wasn't that tough but the area around the waterfall is all stairs, so my heart really started racing then. I've skipped working out for the past few months and it shows. It's amazing how quickly a person's fitness level can go downhill. We finished the hike by 1pm. It was so hot outside that Mitchell and I decided to eat our lunch in the van with the AC on. After eating we drove to the park welcome center for a small presentation on area snakes. Mitchell was giddy after being allowed to pet one of the snakes. He just loves animals. Next he washed his hands and we got back on the road.
We weren't on the road long because the two of us wanted to stop at a place nearby that was selling homemade ice cream. I got pineapple/coconut, while Mitchell got his favorite, strawberry. We both opted for two scoops but Mitchell didn't keep his for long. The ice cream was so soft that he knocked one scoop off the cone by licking with too much force. Oh my, did he ever cry over that one. I didn't think he'd ever settle back down.
After the cones, we continued our drive home. Since I wasn't in a huge rush to get back home we ended up stopping along the road at a roadside produce stand for some fresh tomatoes & onions. I also ended up paying way too much for a 64oz of the yummiest cider that I've ever tasted. It was blackberry cider. I've never heard of blackberry cider. Let me say that it is super sweet but so, so good.
We drove for another thirty minutes before I started seeing "Free Wine Tasting" signs along the road. Since I didn't have anywhere to be I decided to check out this local winery. They offered alot of fruity wines that were yummy. I ended up buying one bottle to take with me on my girl's beach weekend next month. I think some of the ladies might like it.
We were all so hungry when Mitchell & I arrived back home. I, however, was in NO shape to cook. My entire body ached and I was exhausted due to lack of sleep the night before. I wanted to take a long nap and wake up full. Since that wasn't going to happen, I showered and then we all hit our local Mexican restaurant.
I should have just went to bed when I got back home but silly me rented a couple movies at the Redbox after dinner. While Michael put the kids the bed I did a good job staying awake to watch "A Haunting in Connecticut." I'd heard that it was scary, so I was nervous about watching it by myself late at night. Actually when they would pop a scary face quickly on the screen, I would get a little startled but I didn't feel like the movie as a whole was really that bad.
Sunday (rainy day)
This day starts out lazy. I'm still tired and sore from yesterday's hike. It takes me a while to get showered and moving. After we eat lunch (sandwiches and soup), Mallory and I head out to shop a little. Since most of yesterday I spent with Mitchell, I felt like she'd love to hang out with me today all by herself. We went to the health food store and purchased Vegan Cheeses, Sunbutter & Soy Yogurt since she was out. Then we hit Target for a couple more grocery items and so Mallory could use the gift card she got on her birthday from her cousins. She looked over doll clothes, Barbies, Polly Pockets, & stuffed toys before hitting the Lego aisle to blow most of her money. lol It's so funny how much influence Mitchell has on her. Since he has become addicted to Lego's, she has followed right along.
Once I got back home, I needed to put away my groceries. The thing is........my pantry was a disorganized mess. So, I went through it shelf by shelf and put like things together. I also threw away all the old stuff that was in there. It looks beautiful now. I could just sit there with the door opened all day long staring at it. lol
For dinner, Michael cooked his yummy pork tenderloin with sweet potatoes and tomato, cucumber & onion salad (I made this Saturday night using my fresh tomatoes). It was so good. After I did most of the dishes, I put the kids to bed. Mallory dozed off quickly but Mitchell had to whine & complain about being hungry until he FINALLY joined Mallory.
Michael & I got to watch my second Redbox movie tonight, "The Knowing". We didn't like the ending of this one. Totally depressing.
That wraps up my weekend. Now it's time to start another week.
