Michael and I decided to rent a canoe and paddle down the New River this past weekend. It was wonderful. We spent 4 1/2 hours floating, fishing, & paddling. The fishing was very relaxing. It's something that the two of us have loved doing together since we started dating. We both caught a few fish but none of them were worth keeping. It really didn't matter though because we fish to relax. We aren't interested in trophy fish.
The water moved so slowly that it really was work for us to make any progress. I assumed that paddling would be optional but was proved wrong. I didn't mind paddling I just never thought that the river would be more like a pond in most of the areas we were in. lol
We did a couple patches of "rapids" or as I like to call them "ROCKS". The water was so low that we spent most of the time in the rapids stuck on top of rocks or walking along side the boat steering it through the water. That was my least favorite part of the trip.
It's so nice to get away from it all. It was so relaxing listening to people mow their lawns & work on their houses. Seriously, I was surprised by how many people live on the river. Of course I don't blame people for wanting to live by water. I find it very relaxing myself.
We did pass by a small farm or two along the way and I ended up snapping a picture of some cows cooling off in the river. I just couldn't resist.
