That's a picture of what's left of our 96 gallon trashcan!
At 3:00am on August 11th I noticed a bright glow coming through our bedroom windows. I looked out the window and saw my lawn on fire. I woke up Michael, grabbed the phone and ran downstairs to go outside to see what was burning. I called the fire dept while Michael tried unsuccessfully to put the fire out. Every time he put water on the fire, it flared up.
I can't believe that the fire truck didn't wake any of my neighbors but they never heard the sirens.
My first instinct is to say that it was set on fire but the firemen told me that it's not uncommon for trashcans to just burst into flames on their own. So who knows how it caught fire. I'm just thankful that it was about 8 feet away from the house or it would have caught the house on fire too.
Michael was up every 15-20 minutes the rest of the night, patrolling the house and looking out the windows. He was so tired that he ended up working from home that day.
