Happy 4th of July!

Today started out with the cutest and also the shortest parade I've ever seen. Mitchell's cub scout troop lead the parade and handed out small American flags (ironically made in China). The cub scouts were followed by other kids riding their decorated bikes. They walked/rode for about two blocks and that was it. Not long after the parade, the local firefighters battled it out to see which group (with the help of the children) would win a "spray off". Basically they hung a ball on a rope and then kids & firemen would try to spray it over to the opposing teams side. Of course, the kids got soaked in the process along with most by standers. As if that didn't make them wet enough my kids started running through the stream of water. They were so soaked by the time we were finished that I had to purchase new clothes for them to wear to our lunch with friends.

After lunch we hung out at home until it was time to go watch fireworks. Mallory had a blast! This was the first year that she really enjoyed them. She's always been so scared of loud noises that she'd hide in my arms during the explosions. The fireworks didn't last long enough according to Mitchell. He would have stayed up all night watching them I'm sure. Now Mallory wanted more too, but she was exhausted. She was so tired that it was hard to keep her awake on the short ride home.

Thankfully my neighbors didn't keep my kids awake by letting off their personal fireworks displays until 1:00 am. Yes! ONE freakin' AM.

Happy Independence Day! God Bless the USA!
